This years Coachella Music and Arts Festival in California attracted celebrities from far and wide who went to soak up the large variety of music and art that had taken over Indio, California in the Coachella Valley.
   The event, which goes on for three days each year, had an impressive line-up of artists for the 17th, 18th and 19th of April including Franz Ferdinand, Morrissey, The Ting Tings, We Are Scientists, Billy Talent, James Morrison, The Killers, Joss Stone, Paul Weller, The Cure and Paul McCartney to name only a few. “Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalise same sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit, why or why not?”

To which Carrie replied:

“We live in a land that you can choose same-sex or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and my family I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offence to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it be between a man and a woman.”

   Ever since the whole uproar with Proposition 8 in America, a declaration that de-legalised gay marriage, equality for same-sex couples has been a huge topic in the American press and, in response, some states are now beginning to legalise same-sex marriages again.

   Zac Efron leaves behind the East High Wild Cats to take his place at a new high school in New Line Cinema‘s newest comedy, 17 Again.
   The film centre’s around the character of Mike O’Donnell, played by Friends star Matthew Perry, a 37-year-old man who is transformed back into his 17-year-old self (Efron) when he wishes that he could do his life over. Mike, who gave up on his dream of a college scholarship at 17 when he found out that his girlfriend Scarlett was pregnant, grew up to work in pharmaceuticals but was never truly happy with the direction that his life had taken. Along with his work problems, Mike and Scarlett’s relationship, along with his relationship with his son and daughter, has deteriorated over the years and Mike is put up by his best friend Ned while his divorce is finalised. Ned, posing as Mike’s father, enrols him into the same high school that he attended as a teen and Mike sets out to do his life over. Posing as ‘Mark’, Mike befriends his own son Alex and begins to find out more about his children’s lives and the differences to school life 20 years on. Mike now has a very hard choice to make. Does he follow his dreams and get the basketball scholarship? Or does he realise a new dream that he should follow?
   The film, which is in cinemas now, is a barrel of laughs from start to finish. Zac, who has the hard task of pretending to be a 37-year-old, plays the part brilliantly and shows a new side to his acting abilities. Although some parts are as cheesey as to be expected, the plot and the characters are very well thought out and the film turned out to be a very enjoyable watch.

Well, it all went down in America last night!
   The actor, and Twitter fanatic, Ashton Kutcher beat out America’s CNN news channel to become the first ever twitterer to reach one million followers. Whilst CNN covered the action live on air, Ashton fought back by streaming footage live from his study using UStream, ”I’m am live on ustream now if CNN is gonna fight it out on tv I’ll fight it out on the web http://ustream.tv/ashton“, and even managed to record the moment when he beat CNN to the post.    One of the main focuses of the race for Ashton was that, if he won, he would donate a cheque for $100,000 to the Malaria No More charity which would buy 10,000 mosquito nets for impoverished families in Africa.
   After winning, Ashton cracked open a bottle of bubbly and proceeded to celebrate with his wife Demi Moore and friends. Also, he spoke about the power of the media and how it is beginning to change and the user is becoming ever more powerful “We can and will create our media”.

   Country music sensation Taylor Swift has already conquered in the US and is now beginning to make her mark on the UK music scene. Taylor, who is 19 and originally from Wyomissing in Pennsylvania (US), has had huge success in America with her self-titled debut album in 2006 and was topping the American Country Billboard charts with each single she released. With the recent release of her second album, Fearless, Taylor has had even more success and managed to rack up 22 weeks on the American Billboard 200, with 11 non-consecutive weeks on the number one spot. That’s pretty remarkable!
   The album, which boasts an impressive 16 songs all written by the teen herself, certainly lives up to the hype and is a brilliant mix of country and pop to appeal to girls of any age. With songs such as You Belong With Me and The Way I Loved You successfully showing the pop-influenced side of the album, Tell Me Why and The Best Day keep true to Taylor’s country roots and supply us with foot-tappingly worthy beats.
   I highly recommend Fearless to anyone who would like to check out this young singer-songwriter. With an increasing number of young girls looking up to celebrities as role models, I believe that Taylor is one to be admired and will continue with her reign of success for many years to come.
